Convergence DM Log - Session 4 - 11/24

Preamble This was a session with some major twists and turns and "really?" moments.  Looking back at it, the players seem to have gotten a good groove with each other and together I'm learning how to pick up what everyone is really looking for in the game.  It's a bit of a change up from previous groups which I'll talk about more later.  But again, the players were on point, the game had some amazing moments and some great role play, and even a decent bit of action. Hiding in a ditch We agreed to start the session with the party regrouped in the woods, hiding.  The dragoons were searching the woods in pairs and the heroines had a chance to hatch a plan for what to do with the various artifacts they had acquired.  After some great in character discussion they hatched a plan.  Once again I felt like I could go get myself some pizza and just call out clarification answers from the kitchen while they had their fun outlining their options and hatching a p...

Preamble One of the best parts of a game is feeling the party start to mesh together into a "team".  Now I use quotes there because not all RPG groups really function together as characters but as players they can still find a rhythm and rhyme.  While Molly and Tiffany have almost a year of experience playing together, Pond and NLK are new to the table and it's great to watch them mesh into a Role Play Troupe. As there were tactical implications to where they put the dead body, where they were hiding the saddle, and where they put the shard, thos...

Preamble After a week off, it was good to get back to gaming.  While a weekly game feels like it has just the right amount of time between sessions, long enough to build anticipation, short enough to not forget what happened, missing a week was rough.  Still, I'm happy to have met the parents I did at conferences and I was pleasantly surprised that the school let me run my conferences from home. The Cliff Hanger I do try to structure my sessions to end on some kind of twist or cliff hanger because I really want to give the players (and the audience) something to talk about between sessions.  While I had hoped the party would get through the entire "dungeon" last session, I'm even more pleased that we ended on the reveal of "the boss fight". To that end, I find that the concept of the "boss fight" is a bit of a mixed bag.  I believe every fight in an RPG should have stakes.  Fighting monsters to fight monsters feels hollow.  However, the idea of ...
